Small is beautiful

"St Michael’s School is an outstanding church school and its Christian foundation and principles support all it does.  There is a strong family feel to the school and children are valued and encouraged through the support of a committed Headteacher and staff.  Pupils enjoy going to school and appreciate all they receive.  They are enthusiastic about their learning and being members of the school community.  This is having a clear impact for good on the whole school.  Parents are fully supportive and very enthusiastic about the school."   Diocesan Inspection July 2009

Our website is designed to give you a flavour of our school, but the best way to discover what we have to offer is to see us in action.  We would be delighted to welcome you to meet us, look around and experience first hand the warmth of the Christian environment we provide for the children in our care.  St Michael’s is a small Infant School set in beautiful and well-maintained surroundings.  We can be found just off the A24 between Dorking and Leatherhead.

The school on this site has been here since 1907.  We are proud of our heritage, constantly review the educational provision that we make and are never complacent.

As a church school we enjoy close links with St Michael’s Church and are well supported by Guildford Diocese as well as Surrey LA.  Our daily assemblies are an opportunity to meet together and provide a focus for the day.  The parish priest regularly takes assembly and we hold special services in the church.

We believe in serving the community, whether that community is Christian, of a different belief, or no belief; all are welcome.  We invite all children, parents, families, governors, neighbours, former pupils and families to be part of our community.  We encourage parental help and support and believe that a child’s education can only be truly successful if it is viewed as a partnership where all parties feel valued, respected and needed.

St IMG_0404cMichael’s children have fun

We provide a wonderful school experience, both indoors and out.  Our governors believe that trained adults are the greatest resource a school can have.  This commitment to providing as many trained adults as possible means that children benefit from full time teachers and part time teaching assistants throughout their time at the school.  The staff know the children well, are approachable, and ensure that they are secure, happy and able to achieve.

The 2009 Ofsted and Diocesan Inspections endorsed the work of the school particularly praising the care, guidance and support that the children receive and their personal development and well being.

"Pupils are also increasingly taking responsibility for their learning.  They are set individual targets in English and Mathematics, based on a careful assessment of their progress.  They are keen to achieve these and are also encouraged to evaluate their work and consider how well they are doing.  This, along with their exemplary behaviour and very positive attitudes to learning, contributes to their good achievement." - Ofsted May 2009
